Ukrainian Air Force: Guided aerial bombs have become a real problem. F-16s are urgently needed as soon as possible

Russians increasingly use guided aerial bombs on the front lines. If launches of UAVs were sporadic half a year ago, now there can be up to a hundred per day.

Yuriy Ignat, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force, identified Russia’s use of guided aerial bombs on the frontline as a real issue.

“What we are currently witnessing in the south of the country is the use of air assets, primarily guided aerial bombs. Yesterday, a significant number of them were launched towards the south,” he said during a live telethon, commenting on the announcement of an air alert on Sunday.

Half a year ago, launches of guided aerial bombs were sporadic, and now there can be up to a hundred per day.

“Guided aerial bombs fly imprecisely, but it’s a 500 kg bomb. There are many explosive elements, and they cause widespread damage with mass strikes. There have already been close to a hundred bombing incidents in a day. So, this is a real problem, and we’re not just telling the citizens. It’s a message to our Western partners that we need weapons, long-range air defense systems, and urgently need F-16s that could counter Russian aircraft,” said Ignat.

In September, Volodymyr Zelensky instructed to find a solution to counter Russian guided aerial bombs, which have been causing significant issues for the advanced units of the Defense Forces and frontline settlements. Russians can launch guided aerial bombs from a distance of about 50 km from the frontline, at an altitude of over 10,000 meters, and the bomb can travel approximately 70 km. Ukrainian aviation currently lacks the capability to intercept Russian bombers from such distances.
