“Urgent assistance needed”: Estonia provides small arms and ammunition to the Ukrainian Armed Forces

The Estonian Cabinet supported the proposal of Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur to send small arms and ammunition to Ukraine.

“Russia should gain nothing from this aggression. Everyone who supports Ukraine must expedite the provision of military assistance and enhance the capacity of their defense industry,” stated Pevkur.

It is reported that Estonia has already provided military assistance to Ukraine totaling over 400 million euros, which constitutes more than 1% of the country’s GDP. Among the items transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces were Javelin anti-tank complexes, howitzers, artillery ammunition, anti-tank mines, anti-tank grenade launchers, mortars, vehicles, communication equipment, field hospitals, medications, personal protective equipment (helmets and others), and MRE rations.

On July 16th, Estonia approved a defense development plan for 2024-2027, drawing from Ukraine’s experience in countering Russian aggression. Over 1.2 billion euros are allocated solely for the procurement of ammunition.
