Germany has delivered the first batch of new ammunition for the Gepard to Ukraine

Germany has delivered recently manufactured ammunition for the self-propelled anti-aircraft systems Gepard, produced on the newly established production line. The construction of the ammunition production line was successfully completed ‘on an ambitious schedule.’

As noted, due to the rapid construction of the ammunition production line, the first shipment of a five-figure quantity of projectiles was successfully delivered to Ukraine. “The ongoing war in Ukraine consistently reminds us that air defense and an adequate supply of ammunition are crucial for defending one’s own country. By resuming the production of Gepard ammunition, we are focusing on these two most important aspects,” said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

According to Pistorius, Germany will continue to support Ukraine in areas where it has strengths, such as artillery, ammunition, and ground-based air defense. It was previously reported that the German weapons manufacturer Diehl Defense seeks to significantly increase the production of its IRIS-T air defense system to meet the growing demand due to Russia’s war against Ukraine. In 2025, the private company plans to produce at least eight systems, increasing production from three to four systems this year. Additionally, the company announced its intention to triple the production of these missiles.

German Military Assistance

Previously, Germany provided Ukraine with a new package of military assistance, which included Gepard anti-aircraft systems, heavy transport equipment, reconnaissance drones, and ammunition. The new assistance package includes:

10 Bandvagn 206 tracked all-terrain vehicles (previously 8).
6 self-propelled GEPARD anti-aircraft systems (previously 40).
2600 smoke grenades for GEPARD.
20 reconnaissance drones RQ-35 HEIDRUN.
13 reconnaissance drones VECTOR.
8 rapid response vehicles.
8 dental sterilizers.
It is worth noting that within the previous assistance package, Germany supplied Ukraine with 10 Leopard 1 A5 tanks, 155mm projectiles, smoke munitions, trucks, trailers, and machine guns.
