China has stated that it “does not seek benefits” from the war in Ukraine

Spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, stated that her country “has not sought and does not seek” benefits from the war in Ukraine. She said this at a briefing during the visit to Beijing of Russian diplomat Sergey Lavrov, the department’s press service reports.

During the briefing, journalists asked the spokesperson about the deepening of military cooperation between Chinese companies and Russia and reminded that the head of the US Treasury, Janet Yellen, warned of “serious consequences” if China provides support in the war.

In response, the representative of the Chinese agency denied that her country is supposedly interested in a full-scale war on Ukrainian territory. She urged to “not spread slander on the normal relations between China and Russia” and to refrain from harming the lawful rights and interests of China and its state-owned enterprises.

“We have never sought and will not seek benefits from the crisis. China regulates the export of dual-use goods in accordance with laws and regulations,” said the Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

She assured that the Chinese side “has always been fair and objective on the Ukrainian issue.”

“We have actively worked on promoting peaceful negotiations and political settlement of this issue. China is neither the creator of the Ukrainian crisis nor its participant,” Mao Ning added.
